Issue/Introduction

  • You are looking for the best course of action to upgrade your existing VMware Aria suite (which may include VMware Identity Manager, VMware Aria Operations, VMware Aria Automation, VMware Aria Operations for Logs, and VMware Aria Operations for Networks) to VCF Operations 9.0.
  • This article outlines the specific upgrade workflow using VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle, including how to handle the new entitlement prompts required to deploy the VCF Operations Fleet Management node during the upgrade process.

Environment

  • VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.x

  • VCF Operations 9.0

Cause

  • The upgrade process to VCF Operations 9.0 introduces a new deployment model and architectural changes. The procedure requires specific binary mappings and branches into different installation paths based on your licensing entitlement

Resolution

To successfully upgrade VMware Aria Operations to VCF Operations 9.0 and deploy the Fleet Management node, follow these steps:

  1. Prerequisites: Ensure that both the VCF Operations 9.0 upgrade pak and the VCF Operations fleet management appliance OVA are present under binary mapping in VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle.

  2. In the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle UI, select the VMware Aria Operations product and click on the Upgrade action.

  3. Perform an inventory sync, and then click to proceed.

  4. Select version 9.0.

  5. Entitlement Selection: You will be prompted with an entitlement question to choose between VCF or Others.

    • Select VCF if you want to upgrade to VCF Operations and deploy the VCF Operations Fleet Management node along with its integrations.

  6. If VCF is selected, provide the requested Infrastructure and Network information for the VCF Operations Fleet Management node.

  7. Allow the system to perform the environment prechecks.

  8. Submit the request.
