VCF Operations/Automation (formerly VMware Aria Suite)

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF Operations 8.18.x with vCenter Server 8.0 and ESXi 8.0 may plan to upgrade their environment to VCF 9.0.

  • The Product Interoperability Matrix indicates that VCF Operations 8.18.x is compatible with vCenter Server 9.0. Based on this information, customers may assume that upgrading VCF Operations is not required as part of the VCF 9.0 upgrade.

Note: As of March 17, 2026, interoperability information is subject to change without notice.

Environment

VCF Operations

Cause

Aria Operations 8.18 is capable of collecting metrics from vCenter Server 9.0. As a result, the Product Interoperability Matrix may indicate compatibility between VCF Operations 8.18.2 and vCenter Server 9.0.

However, this compatibility only reflects metric collection capability and does not represent full functional or licensing support within a VCF 9.0 environment.

Resolution

Although the Product Interoperability Matrix shows compatibility between VCF Operations 8.18.2 and vCenter Server 9.0, this does not eliminate the requirement to upgrade VCF Operations.

vCenter Server 9.0 instances cannot be licensed without a fleet-level VCF Operations 9.0 instance.

Therefore, upgrading existing VCF Operations 8.18.x to version 9.0 is required when deploying or upgrading to a VCF 9.0 environment.
