VMware vCenter Server VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Issue/Introduction

When attempting a Rubrik live migration from one vCenter to another, it takes longer than expected:

  • The virtual machines (VMs) are not very large in size, but take over 24 hours to move in some instances
  • Attempts to import some VMs are unsuccessful, but the VM is showing in vCenter and can't be removed
  • You see messages in /var/log/vmkernel.log similar to the following related to the NFS volumes used by Rubrik:

Wa(###) vmkwarning: cpu##:#######)WARNING: NFS: ####: NFS volume rubrik_<volume_id> average I/O latency #######(us) has exceeded threshold 10000(us) for last 10 minutes

Environment

vCenter 8.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

High latency on the Rubrik NFS volumes is causing the live migration to be very slow.

Resolution

Verify there are no networking issues between the ESXi hosts and the Rubrik NFS volumes. Because this relies on external storage and network routing, please engage your internal network team or reach out to vendor support for further assistance investigating the NFS volume latency.
