Issue/Introduction

In an NSX Cloud configured in VPC mode, disabling DHCP on the management network may cause VS placement to fail, as the SEs cannot obtain IP addresses for the data networks.

Environment

Avi version 30.2.1 - 30.2.6

Avi version 31.1.1 - 31.1.2

Avi version 31.2.1 - 31.2.2

Cause

In VPC mode, the network objects are not created for data vNICs.

When the SE initially comes up, the management network is in a connected state, while all data vNIC slots are occupied by the management network in a disconnected state (dummy data vNICs).

As DHCP remains disabled, the SEs are unable to acquire IP addresses for the data vNICs from the VPC networks.

Resolution

There are no scalable workarounds available for this deployment in the affected version.

This issue is being fixed in future releases.

Bug ID: AV-268068
Release Notes: In an NSX VPC environment,  Virtual Service placement fails when the management network uses static IP addressing.
Fix Version: 31.2.2-2p1

Additional Information

This fix is applied only to newly deployed Service Engines. To apply the fix for existing Service Engines, perform the following steps:

  1. Disable the affected Virtual Services.
  2. Delete the current Service Engines.
  3. Re-enable the Virtual Services. The Service Engines will then be automatically created with the fix.
