Issue/Introduction

Devices in the Topology view display a green (Normal) status even when active alarms exist for those items in Spectrum or Performance Management․

SYMPTOMS:

  • Devices in Topology remain green or show maintenance icons instead of alarm states.

  • Alarms are visible in the right pane or device list but do not update the device icon color.

  • Device condition shows "Normal" despite critical underlying faults.

CONTEXT: This occurs in NetOps environments where Spectrum is integrated with Topology but status synchronization is not fully configured.

IMPACT: Operators may overlook critical device failures because the visual Topology map does not reflect the actual health of the infrastructure.

Environment

Platform: DX NetOps

Component: Topology / Spectrum / Performance Management Integration

Version: All supported versions

Cause

Topology requires Kafka streaming to update item conditions dynamically.

Without Kafka integration, the system displays alarms in the list view but cannot synchronize those states to the visual Topology icons.

Resolution

  1. CONFIGURE SPECTRUM KAFKA PUBLISHING:

Enable Spectrum to send alarm data to the Kafka bus to allow Topology to consume status updates.

EXPECTED: Spectrum publishes each alarm as a record to the designated Kafka topic.

  2. VERIFY TOPOLOGY DATA CONSUMPTION:

Once Kafka streaming is enabled, monitor the Topology view to ensure device colors update in real-time.

EXPECTED: Device icon colors change to reflect the highest severity alarm currently active in Spectrum.

VERIFY SUCCESS:

  • Trigger a test alarm on a managed device.

  • Confirm the device icon in Topology changes from green to the appropriate alarm color.
