Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to upgrade to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.0, users may find that the option to deploy the VCF Operations Fleet Management Node is missing or that the upgrade path from VMware Aria Operations 8.x is not enabled within the lifecycle manager.
  • This issue occurs when the underlying lifecycle management appliance has not been updated with the specific functional logic required for the VCF 9.0 product suite. You may observe that the 9.0 binaries are not recognized or the "Fleet Management" component is unavailable in the UI.

Environment

  • Product: VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle (formerly vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager)

  • Target Version: VCF Fleet Manager 9.0 / VCF Operations 9.0

  • Source Version: 8.18.x

Cause

  • The transition to VCF 9.0 architecture requires VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18 Patch 2

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must manually download and map the 8.18 Patch 2 binary to your appliance.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that you have taken a snapshot of the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Virtual Appliance (VA).

  • Ensure you have the vrslcm-8.18.0-Patch2.patch file downloaded from the Broadcom Support Portal.

Step 1: Upload the Patch

    1. Using a file transfer tool (such as WinSCP), upload the .patch file to the /data folder on the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle VA.

Step 2: Map the Patch Binary

    1. Log in to the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle UI.

    2. From the Lifecycle Operations dashboard, navigate to Settings > Binary Mapping.

    3. Click Patch Binaries.

    4. In the Source Location field, enter the path where you uploaded the file (/data).

    5. Click Discover.

    6. Select the discovered patch and click Add.

Step 3: Install the Patch

    1. Navigate to Settings > System Patches.

    2. Click New Patch.

    3. Select the 8.18 Patch 2 binary and click Next.

    4. Click Install.

      • Note: The services will restart automatically. You will be redirected to the login page once the process is complete.

Step 4: Verification

    1. After logging back in, navigate to Settings > System Patches.

    2. Check Patch Details to confirm the version is correctly reported as Patch 2.
