Issue/Introduction

  • Adding a compute manager results in a registered with error status.
  • The system displays an error stating failed to create service account due to errors user do not have permission to create service account on compute manager.
  • The compute manager registers successfully but vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) cannot be enabled on NSX clusters.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

  • Missing global licenses privileges or omission from the license service administrators group causes this failure.
  • Deletion of an existing service account by an administrator also triggers this error during vLCM API authentication attempts.

Resolution

  • It is necessary to assign appropriate privileges to the designated account within vCenter to avert service account creation failures.
  • Navigate to the vSphere client menu and select Administration followed by Global permissions.
  • Verify the user or group possesses a role with global licenses enabled under the privileges section.
  • Access the single sign-on section and navigate to users and groups.
  • Add the user or external identity provider group to the local license service administrators group.
  • Enable the trust field during compute manager configuration to establish trusted communication.
