VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) 8.x

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading the VCF Operations to the latest version, scheduled reports containing non-ASCII characters (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, or Korean) in the report name exhibit the following behavior:

  • Email Attachments: The filename of the report attachment appears garbled or contains corrupted characters.
  • Email Body/Subject: The title of the email and the actual content within the report remain intact and legible.
  • Manual Downloads: Reports downloaded directly from the Aria Operations UI display the correct filename.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.6

VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

The appliance fails to properly handle character encoding during automated email dispatch, resulting in corruption of non-ASCII strings in the attachment headers.

Resolution

The development team is currently working on a formal fix to be included in a future release. Please monitor the VMware Aria Operations Release Notes for the official resolution.

Workaround:

To ensure filenames display correctly, use only ASCII characters (standard English alphanumeric characters) when naming scheduled reports.

  • Navigate to Visualize > Reports
  • Locate the affected report template
  • Rename the report using ASCII characters
  • Save the changes and trigger the schedule to verify the attachment filename in the recipient’s inbox
