Issue/Introduction

  • On the SDDC Manager, the warning 'NSX need to be relicensed' reappears immediately after successfully applying a valid license to the NSX-T Manager.

  • Re-applying the license using 'Update Licenses' option results in the same warning.
  • The license key displays as Active on the SDDC Manager UI and the NSX Manager UI.
  • On the vSphere Client, under Menu -> Administration -> Licensing -> Assets -> Solutions, the old license key is assigned to the NSX Manager. The new license key is not listed under Licenses Tab.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

Cause

The warning occurs due the license key missing from the associated vCenter Server inventory.

In VMware Cloud Foundation, the license must first be applied directly to the component (NSX-T Manager via vCenter Server) before SDDC Manager can successfully complete the licensing synchronization process. Refer Add a Component License Key in the SDDC Manager UI

Resolution

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client that manages the affected NSX-T.
  2. Add and assign the valid NSX-T license key to the NSX component. Refer: How to Configure License Settings for Your vCenter Server
  3. Re-apply the license to the NSX-T Manager via SDDC Manager using 'Update Licenses' option in the warning message.
