Issue/Introduction

You want to automate the periodic power on and power off of specific virtual machines in a vSphere environment.

Environment

VMware vSphere 7.0
VMware vSphere 8.0

Resolution

By performing the following steps, you can create power-on and shutdown tasks that are executed periodically.

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client with administrator privileges.
  2. Select [Inventory] from the menu.
  3. Select the virtual machine on which you want to execute the task.
  4. Select [Configure] from the tabs, and select [Scheduled Tasks] within the settings items.
  5. Select [NEW SCHEDULED TASK], and select the desired action from the drop-down menu.
  6. Enter the task name, description, execution, etc. Select the execution interval according to the repetition interval, and enter settings such as the start time.
  7. Select [SCHEDULE THE TASK] and save the task.
