iSCSi -- All Hosts cannot see their iSCSi Datastores located on SAN

Issue/Introduction

You observe the following Situation:

 

On all Host(s) connecting to the same iSCSi SAN Array, you observe that the related VMFS Datastores located on it, are missing under "Storage".

You might only see local Datastores.

 

You determine: 

• Reboot of the affected ESXi Host(s) did not fix the issue
• No changes were made in the Environment
• You are not aware of any Network issues/Maintenance work
• You worked through the steps 1-6 of KB 311055 but could not find anything identifying the cause of the issue

 

Example:

 

In the Storage Vendor Console of the iSCSI Array, you find indication such as an error pointing to an issue with the Array Storage Controller

Example from a Dell/EMC Compellent System showing the error "The controller status is down or degraded"

 

Environment

ESXi (All Versions)

Cause

Potential Issue with the Storage Controller on the iSCSi Array.

Resolution

Contact your HW Storage Vendor for further investigation.
