In VMware vCenter Server, alarms may continue to send email notifications to outdated distribution lists (DLs) or incorrect individual email addresses. Users may find it difficult to locate where these specific recipient addresses are stored, as they are configured within individual alarm definitions rather than a single global recipient list.
New administrators are not receiving critical infrastructure alerts.
General mail settings are correct, but specific alarms still target old recipients.
Alarm email recipients are defined at the Action level of each specific Alarm Definition. If an email address is hardcoded into an alarm action, it must be updated manually within that specific definition.
To update the recipients for a specific alarm, follow these steps:
Log in to the vSphere Client.
Select the vCenter Server object in the inventory list.
Navigate to the Configure tab.
Under the Alarms section, select Alarm Definitions.
Locate and select the specific alarm that is sending notifications to the old address.
Click Edit.
Navigate to the Actions tab in the edit wizard.
Locate the Send a notification email action.
In the Configuration column, delete the old email address and enter the new recipient(s).
Note: Separate multiple email addresses with a comma (,).
Click Next and then Save.
To verify or update the Global Mail Server (SMTP) settings:
Select the vCenter Server > Configure tab.
Under Settings, select General.
Click Edit and select the Mail section to update the SMTP server or the Sender (From) address.
