Issue/Introduction

  • During the uninstallation of NSX from a compute cluster, the operation fails with a certificate handshake error.
  • The following error is observed: “Failed to uninstall the software on host. Removing NSX components from host through vLCM failed with error: org.springframework.web.client.ResourceAccessException: I/O error on POST request for "https://<URL>/api/esx/settings/clusters/<domain>/software/solutions-internal": <UUID> nested exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: <UUID> Retry the activity.”

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

A certificate trust or communication issue exists between the NSX Manager and the vCenter Server.

Resolution

  1. On the NSX UI under System > Fabric > Compute Managers
  2. Re-register the NSX Manager with the affected vCenter Server to refresh the connection and certificate trust.
    1. Edit the compute manager
    2. Remove the SHA-256 thumbprint
    3. Click edit next to the FQDN or IP address
    4. Re-enter the vCenter username and password.
    5. Click save.
  3. Resume the NSX host removal workflow to allow it to complete successfully.
