Error: VNA installation fails due to non-fully qualified Java version check

Issue/Introduction

The VNA installation fails because the Java checking routine uses an unqualified path for the alternatives command to verify Java 17 ․​​​​​​​‍

ERROR MESSAGE: "Java check is failing on the system"

SYMPTOMS:

• The Java checking routine performs a check using the alternatives command ․

• The installation is executed via sudo using a non-root account ․

• The non-root account does not have direct access to /sbin where alternatives is located ․

CONTEXT: This occurs during any installation or upgrade of VNA ․

IMPACT: VNA upgrades cannot be completed without a workaround ․

 

 

Cause

The installer assumes the alternatives command can be run without a full path ․ Due to security lockdowns, /sbin or /usr/sbin is not in the default path for non-root users ․

 

Resolution

The resolution for this issue is currently targeted for DX NetOps 25.4.7

Note that this is subject to change, and there are no release dates I can provide at this time.
