Issue/Introduction

The VNA installation fails because the Java checking routine uses an unqualified path for the alternatives command to verify Java 17 ․‍

ERROR MESSAGE: "Java check is failing on the system"

SYMPTOMS:

  • The Java checking routine performs a check using the alternatives command

  • The installation is executed via sudo using a non-root account

  • The non-root account does not have direct access to /sbin where alternatives is located

CONTEXT: This occurs during any installation or upgrade of VNA

IMPACT: VNA upgrades cannot be completed without a workaround

Cause

The installer assumes the alternatives command can be run without a full path Due to security lockdowns, /sbin or /usr/sbin is not in the default path for non-root users
