Issue/Introduction

  • When upgrading the Fleet Management Appliance from version 9.0.1 to 9.0.2, the VCF Management UI displays a successful upgrade message. However, the appliance itself is not restarted. Running the uptime command on the appliance confirms the system has not rebooted:
    root@<Fleet-management-Hostname> [ ~ ]# uptime
     ##:##:## up ## days, ##:##,  1 user,  load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Environment

  • VCF 9.x

Cause

  • This is an expected behavior. Fleet management patching process is designed to initiate a service restart instead of a full appliance reboot.

Resolution

  1. Verify "Fleet Management Appliance successfully upgraded" message in the UI.
  2. Note that the uptime command output does not reset, as a full appliance reboot is not performed.
  3. No further action is required to complete the upgrade.
