VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • There is a message in vSphere Client
"Appliance configuration is out of sync."

  • vCenter HA has been placed in Maintenance Mode
  • The vCenter HA state appears as "Degraded"
  • Enable option is greyed out
  • SSH is disabled

Environment

VMware vCenter server 8.0.X

VMware vCenter server 7.0.X

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.X

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.X

Cause

  • This is expected behavior as SSH is disabled
  • For security considerations, SSH can be disabled after the initial synchronization is complete after enabling VCHA.
However, if SSH is disabled, the VCHA cluster become 'out of sync' when rsync is required, such as after VCHA failovers or configuration changes

Resolution

  1. Enable SSH
  2. Read more at FAQ: vCenter High Availability
