Issue/Introduction

This article provides guidance on how to resolve the following inconsistency:

  • A virtual machine (VM) appears as a standalone entity (not belonging to any vApp) in the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Tenant UI.
  • The same VM is displayed within a vApp folder in the vSphere Client.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

VMware vCenter Server 8.0x

Resolution

Perform the following workaround steps:

  1. Create an empty vApp in the VCD Tenant UI.
  2. Navigate to Compute > Virtual Machines in the VCD Tenant UI, and select Move from the Actions menu for the affected VM.
  3. Move the VM into the vApp created in step 1.

Note: If a vApp with the same name does not exist in the VCD Tenant UI and its corresponding folder is empty in the vSphere Client, you can safely delete the original vApp folder from the vSphere Client.
