Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to deploy VMs or vApps from templates within VMware Cloud Director, errors similar to the following are occurring:

The operation failed because no suitable resource was found. Out of 3 candidate hubs: 3 hubs eliminated because: Only contains rejected VM Groups(s): [[##############], [##############]] Rejected hubs: resgroup-###, resgroup-###, resgroup-### - PlacementException NO_FEASIBLE_PLACEMENT_SOLUTION

  • The source VMs being cloned during deployment reside in or have been recently moved to a VM/Host Group in the underlying vSphere cluster.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The source VMs being cloned exist in VM/Host Groups that are not valid for the candidate placement locations for the newly created items. Thus, the placement engine rejects the eligible resource groups since they are not compatible with this group.

Resolution

Remove the source VMs from the VM/Host Groups or place them in groups that are compatible with the destination clusters and resource pools.
