Issue/Introduction

Attempting to view trace entries of a dump captured by SymDump for CICS receives the following message:

CASD6250  SYMDUMP/CICS COULD NOT LOCATE THE TRACE FORMAT REGION

The trace entries in the dump cannot be displayed.

Resolution

The trace format region feature was not installed on the LPAR. The trace format region is a separate address space that SymDump for CICS puts the dump's trace entries so they can be formatted. Once the trace entries are formatted they are passed back to the CICS region for display. 
CCI is used to ship the trace between CICS and the trace format region. The TRACE FORMAT REGION must be running within your CCI network in order to format CICS traces within  SymDump for CICS. 
Member TRCMSAMP contains the sample JCL for the SymDump for CICS TRACE FORMAT REGION. This job may be run as a normally scheduled job, or as a started task at your discretion. The TRACE FORMAT REGION can accommodate trace format requests from multiple CICS regions that have SymDump for CICS installed within an existing CCI NETWORK. These CICS regions may be at different releases of CICS.
