Issue/Introduction

This KB article addresses the supportability of Ubuntu OS 20.04 as it is used within the NSX-T 4.1.x appliance. Specifically, customers seek clarification on how Broadcom provides support for the underlying operating system in the event of security vulnerabilities or general technical issues.

Environment

NSXT 4.1 and earlier

Cause

NSX-T appliances are pre-packaged with specific Ubuntu OS distributions. As these OS versions approach end-of-life or require security patching, customers require confirmation of the Broadcom support lifecycle for the integrated OS

Resolution

Broadcom provides support for the products based on the published product lifecycle matrix and based on the support terms and conditions and the following guidelines:

  • Upgrade Recommendation: It is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest NSX release, which utilizes newer Ubuntu OS releases.

  • General Support: While "extended support" specifically for Ubuntu 20.04 is not provided separately, Broadcom Global Support will assist with technical issues encountered within the NSX appliance.

  • Security & Vulnerabilities: If a security concern or vulnerability is identified within the underlying OS, the Broadcom engineering team will investigate the issue to determine the appropriate course of action, such as a patch or a recommendation to upgrade to a newer version.
