Issue/Introduction

  • All the hosts in the cluster has the same CPU family and the EVC at the cluster level is disabled . 
  • vMotion to the affected host throws the following vMotion validation error . 

The target host does not support the virtual machine’s current hardware requirements. To resolve CPU incompatibilities, use a cluster with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) enabled. See KB article 1003212.

Use a cluster with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) enabled to create a uniform set of CPU features across the cluster, or use per-VM EVC for a consistent set of CPU features for a virtual machine and allow the
virtual machine to be moved to a host capable of supporting that set of CPU features. See KB article 1003212 for cluster EVC information.

Cause

  • The affected Host is not in sync with the cluster EVC configuration where EVC is not configured. 
  • The affected host was once a part of another EVC enabled Cluster.

Resolution

  • Place the affected host in maintenance mode .

         Note: If the affected host is managed by a third party solution e.g. DELL PowerFlex please engage PowerFlex support to place the host in maintenance mode from the PowerFlex Manager  .

  • With the host in maintenance mode take the host out of the cluster (EVC disabled ).
  • Re-add the host back to the cluster  (EVC disabled ) .
