VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

  • Aria operations reports packet drops for VMs on NSX segment.
  • VMs added to the DFW exclusion list are still reporting TX, in some cases RX, packet drops.
  • NSX distributed switch has two uplinks and two VTEPs. VTEP vmk10 and vmk11 exist in the same subnet, and utilize different uplinks.
  • Physical switch has RPF set to 'strict'.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This situation occurs, when expected asymmetric routing occurs in an ESXi host, where this is conflicting with a physical switch mechanism. Specifically, where Reverse Path Forwarding (RPF), is set to 'strict'.

Resolution

Change RPF mechanism on the physical switch from 'strict' to 'default'.
