Unable to advertise routes being created within the tenant org in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

• On an edge gateway, route advertisement shows a status of inactive and there is no option to enable it.
• The provider gateway is configured to use IP spaces.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

If the provider gateway is using IP spaces rather than IP blocks, route advertisement is not enabled at the edge gateway, by design. Rather, route advertisement occurs at the organization VDC network level, as documented in the following:

If their are no routed networks advertising routes attached to the edge gateway, the status will be inactive.

Resolution

In order to configure route advertisement, perform the following steps:

1. Enable route advertisement in the appropriate IP spaces as discussed in the following document:
   
   Enable Route Advertisement For an IP Space in VMware Cloud Director
   
   
2. Create the required routed networks associated with the configured IP spaces and enable route advertisement, as detailed in the following:
