Issue/Introduction

During workload domain creation in Cloud Builder, the "Create NSX transport node collection" task fails.

In NSX UI, the hosts are in inventory, but marked as "Orphaned" or "Install Failed" in their "NSX Configuration" column.

When viewing the details of the NSX Configuration "Install failed" failure, one of the hosts is noted to have an image that is incompatible with the nsxt image:

In vLCM (the Updates tab of the cluster in the vCenter managing the new ESXI hosts), one or more of the hosts have warnings thrown that state CPU and PCI devices (Fibre Channel) used by the host(s) are not supported. Additionally, remediation of the cluster may fail.

Environment

VCF 9.0.2

Cause

One or more of the hosts are using:

   - unsupported hardware

   - unsupported third-party VIBs

Resolution

Unsupported hardware is not guaranteed to work with VCF 9 and the resulting deployment may not be complete or be fully functional. Acquire physical hosts with CPU and hardware that is supported with VCF 9.0.2.

Workaround:

The unsupported VIB may be able to be removed from the host holding it, allowing the installation to proceed. Once removed, the vLCM image remediation can be retried, and the NSX configuration on the node(s) re-ran. If the VIB is needed for using environment architecture (such as Fibre Channel to connect to a storage array), then the host cannot be used for installing NSX and VCF 9.0.2.
