Issue/Introduction

The log files for Output Management Web Viewer for USS are in unreadable. How to view them? 

Environment

Output Management Web Viewer™ for USS

Cause

They are not readable, because they are ASCII files.  The ASCII requirement is due to JAVA which only runs in ASCII. USS (OMVS) can run code that is ASCII as well as EBCDIC. OEDIT or ISHELL are for EBCDIC and cannot be used to edit ASCII files.

Resolution

Use the ISPF Option 3.17 z/OS UNIX directory list utility to work with ASCII files. For instructions view this document in the IBM Knowledge Center: z/OS Unix directory list utility (option 3.17)

NOTE: if you are bringing the file down to your PC, FTP it binary mode.
