Issue/Introduction

A newly added vCenter Server in VCF Usage Meter 9.x connects successfully and indicates a successful connection.

However, the vCenter Server appears under Missing Target Objects in Customer Rules Audit.

Environment

VCF Usage Meter 9.x

Resolution

Verify that the Usage Meter service account has been assigned the correct permissions in vCenter Server.

  1. Log in to vCenter Server using the Usage Meter service account and verify that the user can view inventory objects such as hosts and virtual machines. If no inventory objects are visible, the role may not be assigned correctly.

  2. Confirm that the Usage Meter role has been configured according to the official documentation, Assign Permissions for vCenter for Metering with VCF Usage Meter, and that:

    • The role is assigned at the Global level.

    • The Propagate to children option is enabled so that permissions apply to all child objects.

  3. Verify that the service account can view license keys by navigating to: Administration → Licensing → License Management.

  4. If the permissions were not configured correctly, update the existing role assignment to ensure it is applied at the Global level with Propagate to children enabled. Once corrected, allow Usage Meter to refresh the inventory audit to reflect the changes.
