VMware vSphere ESXi

Issue/Introduction

ESXi features the ability to send SNMP traps for failures or warning conditions of hardware subsystems (e.g., CPU and memory) based on sensor status changes detected by the Common Information Model (CIM) provider. While previous versions of ESXi could generate and send traps for physical disk-related issues, this capability is no longer available in the current version.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

This is expected behavior and is considered by design.

The current implementation only sends SNMP traps for the following IPMI events:

Memory
Power Supply
Fan
CPU

Resolution

Consider utilizing vCenter Server alarms or hardware-specific alarms for monitoring.
