Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to upgrade VMware Aria Operations to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations, the upgrade process fails within VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle at Stage 18. The UI reports the error code

    Error Code: LCMMANAGEMENTNODEVCFOPS12006

Error occurred while trying to triggering import flow in Management Node.

  • The following error can also be seen in Aria Suite Lifecycle at Stage 14 during the Aria Operations upgrade from 8.18.5 to 9.0.2 version.

Error Code: LCMMANAGEMENTNODEVCFOPS12005

Error occurred while trying to push Vcf Ops Certificate to Management Node

  • Fleet Manager shows as "Not Connected" in the VCF Operations Admin UI (https://VCF-Ops-FQDN/admin).

  • Reviewing the /var/log/vrlcm/vmware_vrlcm.log file on the Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.x appliance reveals the following error:

ERROR vrlcm[####] [pool-#=#-thread-##] [c.v.v.l.p.d.l.u.ManagementNodeMigrationUtil] – Response status is not in accepted range with output data : {"status":"","message":"locker:certificate:#######-######-####-####-##########:<Certificate_Name>is not a valid locker certificate.","errorCode":"LCM_ENVIRONMENT_API_ERROR0013","errorLabel":"Product Certificate is invalid in the Environment.","recommendations":[]}.

Environment

  • VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.x

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.18.5

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations 9.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the existing VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x certificate was deleted or is missing from the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.x locker, causing the environment certificate validation to fail during the migration or upgrade phase.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Aria Suite Lifecycle request details, select the option to Skip the failed task and retry the failed request.

  2. If skipping the task and retrying does not allow the request to complete, manually register the 9.0.x Fleet Management Appliance with the VCF Operations 9.0.x instance using the admin console UI.

  3. Once the Fleet Management appliance is connected, navigate to the VCF Operations UI: VCF Operations > Fleet Management > Lifecycle > VCF Management > Overview.

  4. Locate the VCF Operations Component, which will be displaying a Pending Import status.

  5. Click Import to complete the status synchronization.

  6. Log in to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.x and delete the VCF Operations instance to clean up the stale environment record.
