Issue/Introduction

During an upgrade of VMware Aria Operations from version 8.18.5 to 8.18.6, the primary replica and data nodes remain in a "Waiting for analytics" status.

Environment

8.18.x

Cause

This condition occurs if the cluster upgrade is performed while the cluster is online. Active data ingestion and inter-node synchronization processes conflict with the service initialization sequence. Consequently, secondary nodes wait indefinitely for the primary node's analytics process to signal readiness.

Resolution

To resolve and prevent this issue, the cluster must be taken offline before initiating the upgrade process.

Prerequisite: Power off the nodes and take offline snapshots of the entire Aria Operations cluster (Primary, Replica, Data nodes, and CPs) following the exact instructions in Broadcom KB 342576

  1. Log in to the VMware Aria Operations Admin UI.

  2. Under the cluster management section, take the entire cluster offline.

  3. Perform the upgrade from version 8.18.5 to 8.18.6.

  4. After the upgrade process has completed successfully across all nodes, bring the cluster back online to ensure a coordinated, simultaneous startup of the analytics services.
