Deleted network segment stuck in "In Progress" state in NSX Federation

Issue/Introduction

 

• A network segment deleted from the Global Manager (GM) remains in an "In Progress" state.

• The segment is greyed out in the UI and cannot be modified or re-deleted. When hovering a cursor over the Trashcan icon, the pop out information states: Deletion in Progress, refresh table to see updates.
  
  

• Clicking Refresh at the bottom left corner of the table or otherwise refreshing the page does not result in any change
  
  

• If attempts are made to recreate the segment on a Local Manager, they will fail due to the existing stale object.

 

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The segment deletion is held in a "Marked for Delete" state because one or more Enforcement Points (Local Managers) have failed to realize the deletion due to local dependencies.

Resolution

 

1. Log in to the Global Manager UI.

2. Navigate to Networking > Segments.

3. Locate the stuck segment and click the In Progress status link.

4. Identify which Local Manager site is reporting a failure/alarm.

5. Click the Alarm link to view the specific referential integrity error.

6. Resolve the specific dependency error in the alarm.
   • Refer to (KB 431699) Alarm "The object path cannot be deleted as either it has children or it is being referenced by other objects" when trying to delete a Segment (or other object) in NSX when Segment deletion fails and alarms specify a referenced Group membership.
   • Refer to (KB 319116) Segment fails to delete from Global Manager. Status is "Delete in Progress" when segment deletions are stuck with reference to a logical port that is still associated with the segment
