VM Failed with errors Unable to Find Configuration for Vcenter endpoint or HCX Error to HBR server Reason: : HttpHostConnectionException

Issue/Introduction

HCX Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV) migrations may fail with the following error when the target HCX Manager is running VFC 9.0. This error is seen in the events portion of the HCX Migration UI 

Failed to remove replication group on target side: Replica group deletion failed as image commit is in progress

 

From the target HCX Cloud Manager support bundle the following errors are seen:

++ HBR server errors are seen in the target HCX Cloud Manager /common/logs/admin/app.log

2025-12-18 20:27:41.921 UTC [RAVService_SvcThread-3256, Ent: HybridityAdmin, , TxId: TxId: ] ERROR c.v.v.h.m.common.MigrationUtil- [migId=2] Job () failed with exception Error connecting to HBR server <IP removed>:8123. Reason: HttpHostConnectException

 An HbrError involving "Buffer too small" is seen in the target HCX IX-R appliance VM used by the migration. The target HCX IX-R appliance VM is attempting to create an NFC session to the target host at around the same timestamp as the HCX Manager app.log error

Environment

VMware HCX 9 

Cause

In VCF 9.0, certificates are used for authentication between the the HBR server residing it the target HCX IX appliance and the target ESX Host the VM is being migrated to

If the certificate used is too large, it can exceed the HBR server buffer resulting in an HCX VM migration failure

HBR server (Host Based Replication) is used for Bulk and Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV) migration types that utilize vSphere replication for VM data transfer. This issue does not impact vMotion or cold migrations

Resolution

The issue will be resolved in a future software release
