Issue/Introduction

  • When a virtual machine (VM) containing a forward slash character (/) in its name is converted into a VM template, the resulting name in the Content Library displays the slash as an encoded character (e.g., %2f)

Environment

vCenter 8.x

Cause

This is a known issue occurring during the conversion process where the Content Library metadata does not natively parse the forward slash character, leading to URL-style encoding in the display name.

Resolution

Engineering is aware of this issue and is currently working on a permanent solution. This article will be updated as soon as a fix or a formal patch is available.

Workaround

To resolve the display issue, use one of the following workarounds:

  • Option 1: Rename in vCenter Inventory Rename the template directly within the vCenter Server (VC) inventory to remove any forward slash (/) characters.
  • Option 2: Rename in Content Library Edit the template name within the Content Library interface to replace the encoded characters with the desired text or symbols.
