Issue/Introduction

  • During Guest OS customization for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL 10) virtual machine the option for RHEL 10 is not available while using vSphere 8.x 
  • RHEL 10 is supported on vSphere 8
  • Hardware version 19, 20, or 21 is used

Environment

VMware vSphere 8.x

Cause

  • In vSphere 8 during the guest operating system configuration process, the RHEL 10 option is not available for virtual machines with hardware versions 19, 20, and 21
  • This is only available as an option for hardware version 22 which is only on vSphere 9 

Resolution

  • Select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (64-bit) in the Guest OS customization options for RHEL 10 machines in vSphere 8 environment
  • Refer to Guest Operating System Installation Guide for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10
    "During the guest operating system configuration process, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 option is not available for virtual machines with hardware versions 19, 20, and 21. Select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (64-bit). On vSphere 7.0 Update 3, you can only select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (64-bit)."
