Mixed limited-export (LE) and non-limited export versions of NSX in the same Federated installation are not supported

Issue/Introduction

• NSX global managers are installed with the limited export (LE) version of NSX
• In the same federated NSX installation, the local managers are installed with the normal (non-LE) version of NSX

Resolution

Mixing LE and non-LE versions of NSX in the same federated installation is not supported and may lead to unexpected behavior.

Additional Information

From a high-level, the following steps are needed to move the global managers off of the LE version of NSX:

1. Recreate global objects as local objects on LMs (T0, T1, segments, DFW rules, deploy necessary edges)
2. Move workloads to local objects
3. Offboard LMs
4. Delete GMs
5. Redeploy GMs with proper version
6. Onboard LMs
7. Promote local objects to global objects

Note: Step 1 will only work if the existing workloads are not stretched across sites.

Reinstalling NSX may be necessary if the above steps are not viable or if the situation is reversed...i.e., the local managers are on the LE version and the global managers are on the non-LE version.
