VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) 8.x

Issue/Introduction

  • High memory usage is observed on Aria Operations cloud proxy node when checking resource usage under Administration --> Cloud Proxies --> select the cloud proxy node.
  • The number of objects and metrics collected by cloud proxy doesn't exceed threshold as specified in VMware Aria Operations 8.18 Sizing Guidelines.
  • In the output of "top" command run on command line of cloud proxy, no abnormal process is revealed.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

There are a large number of telegraf agents installed in the environment, each collecting a bunch of application metrics, which drives the memory usage of cloud proxy high.

Resolution

To cope with the high memory usage of cloud proxy, either of the below workarounds can be put in place:

  1. Allocate more cpu and memory resources to the cloud proxy node.
  2. Deploy additional cloud proxy nodes.
Optionally all cloud proxy nodes can be put into a collector group for workload rebalance.
