WebPulse Categorization Update For Google AI Mode

Issue/Introduction

Symantec WebPulse is changing the following categorization on March 24, 2026.

Google Search AI Mode categorization will be updated to "Generative AI" to reflect the AI search capabilities.

The updated categorization will affect search prompts that enable the new Google AI Mode.

The categorization change will be done by targeting the query string parameter that changes a regular Google Search to AI Mode prompt (i.e. udm=50)

Resolution

Make any required policy changes prior to March 24, 2026.

Regular Google searches will remain the same. AI Mode Search will be categorized as "Generative AI" after the mentioned date.
