Removing license from VCF Operations UI shows an error "Failed to dissociate license manager as consumed quantity is greater than 0 for allocation id"

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF Operations UI shows banner alert about license expiry. Further review of the license state shows 'Used Capacity' and 'Allocated Capacity" is 0 Cores, similar to below screenshot

 

  • When you attempt to remove the license by clicking on VCF Operations > Licenses > Select 'example.license.name > Click on Vertical Ellipses (Three dots) > Remove, you will encounter an error that reads, "ALLOCATION_QUANTITY_E' Failed to dissociate license manager as consumed quantity is greater than 0 for allocation id......"

 

 

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

Expired license present in VCF Operations result in alerting the user about license issues due to incomplete sync or sync failure between VMware Business Console and VCF Operations.

Resolution

  • From the above referenced screenshot, the error message makes it clear that the license is expired and is a stale entry present in VCF Operations.
  • Initiate sync in VCF Operations UI, by navigating to VCF Operations > License Management > Registration and click on Update License, as shown below
