Issue/Introduction

The Generation 8 (Gen 8) Security Analytics server will not boot up.  You may see errors that a suitable boot device was not found.  The Dell iDRAC screen may not show any errors.

Environment

Dell R640xl
Security Analytics 8.2.x or greater

Cause

The CentOS operating system that Security Analytics uses requires the Boot Mode set to BIOS.  If it is set to UEFI, it will not boot correctly.

Resolution

  1. First make sure you are running the latest firmware version.  There were certain versions of the firmware that would cause booting issues.  See Security Analytics on Dell r640xl server not booting after upgrade or new installation attempt for more details.
  2. Log in to the Dell iDRAC.
  3. Click Configuration
  4. Click BIOS Settings
  5. Expand "Boot Settings"
  6. Make sure that Boot Mode is set to "BIOS".
  7. Apply the settings and then reboot the server.
