This article provides guidance on how to migrate or relocate an NSX Manager or Edge node appliance from one vSphere cluster to another within the same vCenter Server environment.
VMware NSX
Please be aware that at all times the managers have minimum requirements outlined in Cluster Requirements.
Moving critical NSX infrastructure requires careful sequencing to ensure management plane and data plane stability. Please adhere to the following requirements and steps:
Pre-requisites and Requirements:
Cluster Requirements: Ensure the destination cluster meets the minimum resource requirements for the specific appliance size.
Latency: The maximum latency between NSX Manager appliances in a cluster must remain under 10ms.
Serial Migration: To maintain cluster stability, always perform the migration one appliance at a time. Ensure the cluster status is "Healthy" before moving the next node.
Migration Steps:
Identify the specific NSX Manager or Edge VM within the vSphere Client.
Right-click the appliance VM and select Migrate.
Choose Change compute resource only (or "Change both compute and storage" if moving datastores is also required).
Select the destination vSphere cluster or specific host where the appliance should reside.
Complete the wizard and monitor the migration task.
Validate: Once the migration is finished, verify network connectivity and ensure the appliance is still communicating correctly with the rest of the NSX cluster.
[!IMPORTANT] This process is for migrations within the same vCenter. If you need to relocate an NSX/Edge appliance to a different vCenter, please refer to the following article: KB 395943: How to move an NSX Manager appliance from one vCenter to another
