Issue/Introduction

  • When preparing to resize an NSX Manager node, you must first determine the method used to form the manager cluster. The cluster formation method—whether done via the NSX UI or manually (e.g., CLI join command or vCenter OVF)—dictates which specific resizing procedure (Option 1, 2, or 3) you must follow.
  • How do I determine how the manager cluster was formed?
  • This article outlines how to validate the deployment type of your NSX Manager nodes.

To confirm whether the manager cluster was deployed via the NSX UI or manually, perform the following validation steps in your NSX environment:

  1. Log in to the NSX Manager User Interface (UI) using your administrator credentials.
  2. From the main navigation menu, go to System > Appliances.
  3. Locate your deployed NSX Manager nodes on this screen. For each appliance you want to check, click on the View Details link.
  4. Review the information in the Appliance Details column/pane.
  5. Look specifically for the Deployment Type field to determine your next steps:
    • Auto: This indicates the nodes were deployed directly via the NSX UI.

    • Manual: This indicates the nodes were deployed manually using the CLI or vCenter OVF template.

Once you have confirmed the Deployment Type for your nodes, you can proceed with the corresponding Option 1, 2, or 3 from Resize an NSX Manager Node for resizing the NSX Manager node as outlined in your primary resizing documentation.
