This article outlines the process for creating a custom alert to monitor certificate expiration in VMware Aria Operations.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18

Cause

Administrative requirement to establish custom alerting for certificate lifecycle management.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Operations > Configuration > Alert Definitions.
  2. Click ADD.
  3. In the 1 - Alert section:
    • Name: Provide a designated name for the custom alert.
    • Base Object Type: Select VMware Infrastructure Health > Certificates.
  4. In the 2 - Symptoms/Conditions section:
    • Navigate and Add Conditions > Properties > Certificate information > Days to expire.
    • Define the appropriate numeric thresholds for warning or critical alerts (e.g., < 30 days).
  5. In the 3 - Recommendations section:
    • Add the designated recommendation for the alert.
  6. In the 4 - Policies section:
    • Select the target policies to activate this alert within the environment.
  7. Click Create.
