Issue/Introduction

Failed to start the sendmail service in vCenter.

 

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

When reverse DNS resolution fails for the IP address assigned to the VCHA network on eth1, the sendmail service startup will fail due to a timeout.

Starting Sendmail Mail Transport Agent...
sendmail.service: start operation timed out. Terminating.
sendmail.service: Failed with result 'timeout'.
Failed to start Sendmail Mail Transport Agent.

Resolution

Add an entry for the IP address of eth1 to the DNS server.
