Issue/Introduction

Unable to complete NSX upgrade due to error:

Unexpected error while upgrading upgrade unit: Install of offline bundle failed on host XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX with error : [OSError] [Errno 5] Input/output error: '/var/vmware/lifecycle/hostSeed' Please refer to the log file for more details..

Environment

vSAN 8.x

VMware NSX 9.0

Cause

Host is unable to read it's boot media:

Could not open /bootbank
Error: No such file or directory
OBJLIB-LIB: ObjLib cleanup done.
WORKER: asyncOps=0 maxActiveOps=0 maxPending=0 maxCompleted=0

Looking at the datastores on the host it shows that the size and usage of the OS datastore are both 0

Resolution

Reboot host to restore connectivity to the boot device.  If the host reboot does not clear the issue contact hardware vendor to further troubleshoot the boot device.
