Unable to log in to vCenter Server using the root password from the source vCenter Server.

Issue/Introduction

• Login to the post-upgrade vCenter Server using the root password from the pre-upgrade vCenter Server will fail.
• The root password specified during the vCenter Server deployment settings in the upgrade process is different from the root password of the pre-upgrade vCenter Server.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0
vCenter Server 9.0

Cause

The root password is not carried over by the upgrade process; instead, the password specified during the vCenter Server deployment settings will be used.

Resolution

Please access the system using the root password that was specified during the vCenter Server deployment settings in the upgrade process.
