VMware SDDC Manager VCF Operations VCF Operations/Automation (formerly VMware Aria Suite)

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9, when administrators access the VCF Operations interface to manage credentials, they may find the Rotate Password option is missing for core management components.

  • Navigating to Fleet Management > Passwords shows only "Update" and "Remediate" buttons.
  • Automated scheduled rotation cannot be configured for specific management appliances.
  • This affects environments upgraded to or freshly installed with VCF 9.0.

Environment

VCF 9.0.x

Cause

The automated Rotate Password workflow is not currently supported for Management Suite components within the Fleet Management layer of VCF 9.

While VCF 9 centralizes many operations, the password lifecycle for these specific components is currently limited to:

  1. Update: Manually syncing a password that was changed outside of VCF.
  2. Remediate: Correcting credential mismatches or communication failures.

Resolution

To manage passwords for the affected components, follow this manual steps:

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI.
  2. Navigate to Fleet Management > Passwords.
  3. Select the affected component and click Update Password.
  4. Enter the new credentials to ensure VCF can continue to manage the component.
