Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

• vSAN skyline health may show failed disks in the disk management and physical disk health error.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

• The issue can cause when there is underlying hardware issue.
• Upon verifying the hardware console of the server for storage information, you may see the warning as 'The drive enclosure is reporting an internal hardware problem'.
• This indicates the enclosure issue with the server which is causing the drives to report fail on vSAN health and causing the inaccessible objects.

 

Resolution

Engage the hardware vendor to investigate the disk enclosure/backplane/expander hardware.
