Issue/Introduction

Veeam backups fail for specific Virtual Machines (VMs). Upon investigating in the vCenter MOB the affected VMs, the VirtualMachineFileLayoutDiskLayout[] property shows "unset" instead of displaying the correct disk layout configuration.

The Veeam backup fails with the following error:

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Resolution

As a workaround for this issue, remove and register the VM in the vCenter inventory.

Once the VM is successfully registered, verify the VirtualMachineFileLayoutDiskLayout[] property. It should no longer be "unset" and should display a value corresponding to the number of disks attached to the VM.

Re-run the Veeam backup job to confirm it completes successfully.
