Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 (HCX 9.0.x), users are unable to access the HCX interface via the vCenter Server plug-in.
  • Attempting to open the HCX plug-in within vCenter results in an "Invalid credentials" error.

  • HCX Manager /common/logs/admin/app.log or /common/logs/admin/web.log shows the following errors:

ERROR ... dispatcherServlet threw exception ... java.lang.RuntimeException: Invalid credentials

ERROR c.v.v.h.a.HybridityAuthenticationEntryPoint- Sending Response Error 401 for /hybridity/api/sessions
INFO c.v.v.h.a.v.v.ExtensionManagerHelper- Plugin has been deprecated, do not register new extension com.vmware.hcx.plugin

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0

  • VMware HCX 9.0.x

Cause

Starting with HCX 9.0 (included in VCF 9.0), the HCX vCenter Plug-in has been discontinued and is no longer supported for management or operations. The HCX Manager logs explicitly block the registration of the com.vmware.hcx.plugin extension.

Resolution

To manage HCX in VCF 9.0 and later environments, you must use the standalone HCX Manager user interface.

  1. Open a web browser.

  2. Navigate to the HCX Manager FQDN or IP address:

    • For User Operations: https://<HCX_Manager_FQDN_or_IP> (Port 443).

    • For Appliance Management/Updates: https://<HCX_Manager_FQDN_or_IP>:9443 (Port 9443).

  3. Log in using the appropriate SSO or local credentials.

Additional Information
