Issue/Introduction

To determine an asset's allocation to a Perspective, you can make use of both Asset Reports and FlexReports.

Resolution

To determine an Assets Perspective membership, follow these steps:

Asset Reports
  1. Switch to the Cloud the asset resides under, and navigate to Assets. From there, select the service for which you wish to confirm Perspective membership.

  2. Within the Asset report, pull in both the Resource ID field, if available, or another identifying field, such as VM Name, Instance ID, Volume ID, etc.  Additionally, pull in the Perspective itself as a column. Perspective columns will be marked with a P icon as indicated below -

  3. Within the report, locate the Asset you wish to confirm Perspective group membership for by searching or filtering. The Perspective group column will return the name of the Perspective group the asset is assigned to.

    If the field returns "Other," the Asset does not currently fall within a Perspective and is considered part of the Assets Not Allocated group.
FlexReports
  1. Open Reports -> FlexReports

  2. Select the dataset for the cloud the asset falls under (AWS: AWS Cost & Usage Report, Azure: Azure Cost Management, GCP: At this stage, there isn't a resource field available, so Asset reports are better to use for GCP, Oracle Cloud: This cloud isn't currently supported by FlexReports, and Asset reports should be used instead)

  3. Select the Resource ID field (common across both AWS Cost & Usage Report and Azure Cost Management) from the Add Dimensions section, additionally switch the top toggle to "Show All," and under the Perspective section pull in the Perspective you wish to confirm group membership for.

  4. Filter down on the Resource ID to locate the asset, and then reference the Perspective column.  You'll find the name of the Perspective group the asset belongs to returned or "Other". In the case of "Other," the asset currently falls into Assets Not Allocated within the Perspective.
