Administrators may disable the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) via CLI to prevent telemetry or external metrics transmission. However, even after disabling CEIP on all nodes, the cookie consent banner may continue to appear.
VMware Aria Automation 8.x
The cookie banner behavior is independent of CEIP and telemetry settings.
The banner appears when the vcs_cookies_dismissed cookie is not present in the user’s browser.
This cookie is created only after a user manually dismisses the banner.
Once created, it:
Is stored locally in the browser.
Persists for 10 years
Persists across sessions and tabs.
Does not persist in:
Incognito/private browsing mode.
Different browsers.
Disabling CEIP via CLI:
Stops telemetry/CEIP data transmission.
Does not suppress the cookie banner.
Is technically unrelated to the cookie consent mechanism.
Important Notes
The banner message is accurate.
“Collecting data” does not necessarily mean transmitting data externally when CEIP is disabled.
The product uses cookies to:
Maintain session state.
Manage authentication.
Retain user preferences.
Storing cookies locally is technically considered tracking under most compliance frameworks.
Conclusion
The cookie banner:
Cannot be disabled.
Cannot be customized or edited.
Must be dismissed manually per browser/profile.
This behavior is by design.
